Die Zwillinge von Kappeln

"Die Zwillinge" was built from 1995 to 1997 at the Janssen+Renkhoff boatyard in Kappeln an der Schlei, on the German Baltic coast, in the style of a Danish pilot cutter from 1820. The design drawings and calculations were prepared by the renowned design engineering office Judel/Vrolijk & Co, Yachtdesign & Engineering in Hamburg. There is a model of the ship in the Museum of Shipping in Hamburg-Altona.

The wooden hull was constructed in form-glued s-spant (40 mm).
Stem post and kelson are of solid oak. The ballast (lead) is carried as interior ballast, secured against slipping.
Oregon pine was used for the deck planking. On deck there are two large foredeck boxes for stowing the sails and miscellaneous equipment.
Highest quality was maintained in the construction of this traditionally designed vessel.
